One app for every group that shares money.
Whatever brings you together, Baant keeps the money side simple and fair. Here is how different groups use it.
Trips abroad
Friends travelling together, family holidays, backpackers, group tours.
- Add expenses in the local currency as you go: baht in Bangkok, euros in Rome, dirhams in Dubai.
- Use the rupee amount your card was charged, or agree one trip rate for the whole holiday.
- Add expenses with no signal on a ferry or a mountain road; they wait on your phone.
- Friends from the UK or the US? Settle with the fewest payments crossing a border.
- Set a trip budget and a daily budget, and watch the daily average.
Tip: Create the group before you leave, with the dates and destination, and set trip rates for the currencies you will use.
Flatmates and shared homes
PGs, shared flats, hostels, families sharing a house.
- Rent, electricity, internet, gas and the maid as repeating expenses that add themselves each month.
- Work out rent by room size with the rent splitter, then use those shares for the monthly rent.
- Groceries item by item when not everyone eats everything.
- Settle once a month with UPI, from a QR code or a link in the flat’s WhatsApp group.
- When someone moves out, they leave the group and their history stays.
Tip: Turn on reminders a few days before rent is due, so the person paying the landlord is never short.
Couples
Partners who share some costs and keep others separate.
- Split 50:50, 60:40 or by shares that reflect each person’s income.
- Keep one running balance instead of settling every bill.
- Note how each expense was paid (card, UPI or cash) for your own records.
- See where the money goes by category each month.
Tip: Use shares (for example 3 and 2) instead of percentages; Baant keeps the paise exact either way.
Friends and events
Weddings, reunions, birthdays, cricket nights, weekend trips.
- Leave out anyone who did not join a particular dinner or activity.
- Split the restaurant bill item by item, with GST, service charge and tip shared fairly.
- Send each person their share on WhatsApp with a UPI link.
- Friends without Baant are added by name and pay from any UPI app.
Tip: Use the free bill splitter for a one-off dinner; save it as a group when it turns into a weekend.
Office teams and business trips
Teams on a business trip, project groups, client work, small firms.
- Business mode adds invoice number, supplier GSTIN or VAT number, tax amount, project, cost centre and client.
- Members submit expenses; owners and admins approve, reject with a note, and mark them reimbursed.
- Export an Excel workbook or PDF statement that your accounts team can work from.
- The history shows who changed what, with reasons, and is chained so tampering shows.
Tip: Make the person who signs off expenses an admin of the group.
Clubs, societies and associations
Resident welfare associations, sports clubs, alumni groups, service clubs.
- Split the year’s costs between members and see who has paid their share.
- Record event costs and refunds against the original expense.
- A full, tamper-evident history for the committee and the members.
- Statements by category and by person for the annual meeting.
Tip: Use custom categories that match your budget heads, so reports read like your accounts.
