What Baant stores

The names, countries and optional UPI IDs, phone numbers and email addresses you enter for people in your groups; your expenses, payments, notes, tags and places; receipts you attach; and your settings (name, home currency, theme and number format).

Where it is stored

In the storage of the browser or phone you use, receipts included. The website operator does not receive or hold a copy. If you use Baant inside claude.ai, your groups are kept in your Claude account’s private storage for that page.

What leaves your device

• Exchange rates. When an expense or payment is in a currency other than the group’s, your browser requests the reference rate from Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev). The request contains two currency codes and a date. Frankfurter, like any web service, can see your IP address.
• Things you share. Messages, links and files you choose to send go to the app or person you send them to.
• Payments. When you pay with UPI, your UPI app receives the payee’s UPI ID, the amount and a note. Your payment is handled by your UPI app and bank, under their terms.
• Voice entry. If you press the microphone to say an expense, your browser turns the speech into text. In most browsers that is done by the browser maker’s online service, which receives the audio; Baant receives only the words. Typing the sentence instead keeps everything on your device.
• Reading a bill. On this website a bill photo is read inside your browser and is not uploaded. If you use Baant inside claude.ai and choose “Read a bill with Claude”, the photo is sent to Claude on your own Claude account to be read.

What Baant does not do

• No analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
• No reading of your contacts, chats or messages.
• No sale or sharing of data, because there is none held centrally.

Your choices

You can take all your data out at any time (Import and export, then Download everything as a ZIP), and delete it from a device (Account, then Erase everything). Removing someone from your group removes their details from your copy only.

People in your groups

When you add a friend, you enter their details yourself. Please add only what is needed, such as a name and, if they want to be paid by UPI, their UPI ID, and remove details they ask you to remove.

Changes

When accounts and sync are added, data will be stored on servers and this notice will change before that happens. The date at the top shows the latest version.
